Spring 2012

I'm delighted to be kicking off the new year working with the fantastic John Grant on orchestral arrangements for his new album, which will be the follow-up to the highly acclaimed Queen of Denmark (Bella Union). I'll be in the studio with Midlake too, and will be continuing to record my own album of songs throughout this year.

Spring should see the release of Sarah Jaffe's new album (on Dallas-based Kirtland Records) which we finished recording in November with producer John Congleton.

And on 28th April I'll be back onstage with Placebo headlining the Sundance Film & Music Festival at the Indigo 02, London (for tickets see www.placeboworld.co.uk) and am very much looking forward to that.

More news as it hits... Best wishes for 2012!

Recording Sessions

Musicians' Union Keep It Real LogoFiona prefers to personally organise recording sessions for her own arrangements, drawing from a talented, friendly, experienced and reliable group of freelance, London musicians. She can also work with existing ensembles or orchestras booked through other fixers if a relationship is already in place, and is always happy to recommend individual instrumentalists if you're looking for a cellist for a live gig, or a solo instrumentalist for a session.

She enjoys working with a variety of fantastic producers inc. Flood, Rob Kirwan, David Bottrill, Paul Epworth, Dimitri Tikovoi, Jonathan Shakovsky, Ryan Hadlock, Paul Kendall, Simon Raymonde and Paul Alexander. Some of her favourite studios for orchestral sessions include Air Studios, Angel Studios, Assault & Battery 2, RAK Studio, Bear Creek (Seattle), Karma Sound Studio (Bang Saray, Thailand) and for smaller scale projects she regularly works with producer/engineer Julian Simmons at DIN Sound.

When working on album arrangements she provides demo versions before the final studio session to ensure that the artist is happy with the arrangement before it gets committed to the album. She is sympathetic to the songwriting process and works closely with the artist to ensure that an orchestral arrangement is as appropriate and effective as possible.

As a violinist Fiona is available for solo studio sessions which can be prescored or improvised.
